Brandy M. Hall, President
Brandy has taught and studied Permaculture with some of the leading design professionals in the field from New York and Virginia to Colorado and Nicaragua. She completed her Master’s in Contemplative Education from Naropa University, and brings forth a passion for land-based, experiential holistic ecological education as a means of empowering individuals and communities with practical tools to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges. She co-created Belle Meade School in Sperryville, VA, an integrative, farm-based 6-10th grade program located on 140 acres, where she taught Spanish and orchestrated farm and wilderness learning excursions. In addition to owning and operating her own business, Brandy recently served as the Site and Education director for the Ashevillage Institute, an urban permaculture demonstration site located on 1 acre in the heart of Asheville, NC. There, she managed the cutting edge 30,000-gallon Stormwater Reclamation and Urban Garden Project, and coordinated and taught all programming, including the Permaculture Design Certifications. As a teacher and designer, Brandy has also taught ecological design at a variety of venues, including the Environmental Science department of The University of Denver, The Urban Farm Denver, the Hostel in the Forest in Southern Georgia, and Finca InanItah in Nicaragua. Brandy is currently collaborating with educators and the state of North Carolina to design a Permaculture Design Certification vocational course for high school students. As owner and project manager of Shades of Green, Inc., she has designed and installed food forests and perennial farms and gardens from Hartwell, GA to Putnam Valley, New York, including residential and commercial sites, such as Eden Village Camp. She passionately pursues engaging communities with their food production through education, design, and installation of holistic ecological systems.
